Here it is New Year’s Eve! I am so happy to end the year with a few days off and getting the chance to read, learn, and play. Today will be no exception.
While reading I become more motivated about having this business. I am realizing that wealth is not an instant gratification scenario. You have to put in the work and more work in order to just get started. Often MLM businesses are pitched that you can make more money than ever in “this” business. Although that may be true, it is the hard work that needs to occur before any of the wealth will appear. You still need to build your business so you have a solid foundation.
Today, I will be making plans for 3 months out for my WebEx presentations and a loose calendar for the remainder of the year. My calendar this year will include WebEx presentations, group meetings, planned networking events, home meetings and so on. Once they are calendarized and action items attached to them, then that activity will happen. If I do not calendarize then my actions are less likely to happen with any consistency.
I know that setting goals is also important for running a business and this year will be no exception. I will be setting sales goals for each quarter and then breaking that down into the months for tracking purposes. Yes, tracking is also a crucial element and my training background and working with large corporations has shown me that tracking is crucial to success. If you do not know where you are, then how do you know how to steer the boat in the right direction.
Today I had the opportunity to talk to two individuals while they were waiting for their wives at the surgery clinic today. I got my stitches out and others were just waiting. What a good place to just talk to others without any pressure on talking about the business. It is so key to talk to everyone. We (actually my husband) talked to more people in the grocery store line up. We keep spreading the smiles and hellos.
I just finished reading an email from a person that agreed to sign up under another good friend. Of course he said he was too busy with other things and was not interested although he would help promote it. That confuses me as he has time to promote it but not do the business. I guess that is the way he sees it for now. Things change and the no may turn into a future yes. Let’s see.
Happy New Year to everyone! I am having a quiet dinner with my husband and then watch the New York ball descend the tower at midnight – best way to celebrate, in the company of loved ones.

Day 69
Waking up to sunshine is such a joy! It may be cool outside but the sun always brings out the best in me and the rest of my world. I wake up refreshed and ready to tackle anything that comes my way.
I have found that I have lists and lists of things to do that still sit in my head. For some reason they never seem to hit the page where I can check them off. I know from my business experience that I need to put these items in a place where they stare me in the face until they are completed. Instead, I simply pile the papers or the books in a stack and simply stare at them as “I have to get to these today” (and we all know that procrastination sets in rapidly if something else catches our attention).
My list includes getting my QuickBooks up-to-date, writing several articles for posting, doing this blog (this is easy as it is like brushing my teeth in the morning, it is now a habit), putting my activities plan in place (as I talked about in my last WebEx seminar) for the New Year and generally filling my calendar with activities and follow-ups and finally I want to do another French lesson. This is my indulgence to get back to speaking French and thank goodness that is my husband’s mother tongue and he helps me with the pronunciations.
Let’s just see how the day will progress.
I wonder why people do not do as they say they will? Is it they do not want to say NO to your face in case they hurt your feelings or you will no longer consider them a friend? In my opinion it is not taking responsibility for your own actions. I know for myself I will say “Not now”. In reality that opens up the door for further communication for something I do not want. I would be better off to say NO. I have a friend that is always promising to do things for me and has yet to deliver.
It always seems that I end up doing all the work with no results. I woke up this morning with the notion that I must certainly take ownership of the process. I should be the one saying – here is the opportunity, here are the facts, are you interested? If the answer is YES then here is what YOU have to do and here is what I will DO for you. Then hold everyone to their deliverable! Easier said than done!
I am currently reading a book that mentioned getting a mentor. Although I agree with that statement, I think you need to have a mentor that will actually help you achieve your goals. In other words, write down a list of people you think would be good mentors and then target that list to get one of those people to help you. A mentor is important when you lack expertise in certain areas of business. In the MLM industry everyone can be a success but a really big success usually has more business experience and knows how to put it together.
Well I guess there is always some confusion when you run your own business. Today a speaker I had booked for January 20th had put our event down for the wrong date and therefore was double-booked. Thank goodness I was first to book him and had a confirmation. The right thing to do was to go with the first person you booked with and move the other event out a week or two. As I believe in the honest and truthful nature of people, I knew that this would be the correct choice!
If you are around on January 20th – Jim Britt will be speaking at the Dublin Hyatt (right near the movie theatres at Hacienda and Dublin Blvd). This is an event not to be missed. Jim is the best! You can preregister at the http://www.WealthAndHealthNetwork.com
I hope to see you there!

Day 68
The days can go by so quickly when you are on vacation. You have plans to get in some extra activities such as seeing a movie, going for a walk or two and then there is the eating portion! Socializing is always on your mind and business tends to fade off into the background. You sometimes feel that you should let go of the business and just live your life without trying to build anything – stick with the day job and go from paycheck to paycheck. I have often thought that over the past few days as I recover from my surgery and start to doubt my ability to build this business into any substantial.
The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that the product itself is incredible. I stopped taking it while having the surgery and a few days afterwards. I was recovering ok. I then decided that I needed to get back on the product and see if there would be a difference. I was blown away with the difference in my energy and the speeding up of the healing of my wounds. The difference was almost a miracle in the healing but also for my change in attitude towards the world.
The interruptions of the holidays will continue with the chaos of the household, my business is still top of mind but gently pushed behind the scenes as the family demands attention, my reading is sporadic but I am determined to finish a book or two. It is like a symphony of chores, tasks, enjoyment and work; when it all comes together, the music is incredible and it puts a smile on your face.

Day 67
Monday again, my stitches from my minor surgery last week are finally started to take hold and heal. I am happy to have that part of my life over and move on to further enjoyment. I did some more reading early this morning in the Chris Howard book. Great book as it provides me with a lot of fuel for thought as to making my business a success.
He is now teaching me how to weave both the negative and positive aspects of my life into a story that will spur me forward to the future. In other words, I had the chance to write about how the negative impacted my life through lessons learned so that it lead to the positive side. I, being the ever optimist and ever positive person (well learned from my mother – one of the kindest people that ever lived) had a difficult time looking at the negatives that have occurred in my life.
We were to spend ten minutes writing our story into the future using these events – not a problem, I wrote for 30 minutes with ease. It seems like such a good exercise to release those negatives by seeing the positive impact they had on how I have been able to survive and move forward.
And what about the business today?
I just finished reading some more interesting facts. It was an analogy to a lunch line – the line seems to be long and patience is often hard to come by. If you keep jumping lines you may end up farther back and eating later than if you had stayed in the first line. Patience is sometimes difficult when you are trying to build a business. I know that for most of my life I have dabbled in everything but never really successful to the end because I lose interest if I am not making profits quickly. This has probably been my biggest downfall so far. I need to focus on the business and then add to the core of that business for a long period of time.
I am realizing that I have not added many people to my organization at this point in time and that I will need to start a fresh to connect with others. I will return to my original list of people and actually pick up the phone or visit them. It is the personal contact that will help (according to my mentor). Today I am putting together a plan for using social networking sites. You will see links to other media now on this blog.

Day 64, Day 65, Day 66
Christmas, Boxing Day and a day of clean up. The holidays are quite a whirlwind. It sometimes takes a couple of days to celebrate and recoup including putting plans together for the next year. I spent time reading books that will help me further my business.
I am particularly engrossed in reading Chris Howard Instant Wealth at the moment, his words are profound and ring true with the way I think about my life.
I am truly excited about where I will be taking my business and what I will do with the wealth it will create.
It is interesting as we try to do nothing over the holidays. It never seems to work that well with me, I need that time to reflect on what I am doing, where I am going and why the heck I am trying to do this business. Don't get me wrong, I am still focused on building the business as far as it can possibly be taken. I am realigning how I plan on accomplishing the goal.

Day 63
Christmas Eve and I get to wrap some presents if my husband would not be in the same room as me! It is hard to wrap them with sneak peekers around. My neighbor dropped off a package for us and wants to talk about what I am doing for the business after the 27th. I will make sure I add her contact information to my follow up list.
Somehow I feel that I should put business to the side over the next couple of days and then something inside says, “Do Something EVERYDAY to promote your business”. I know I vowed to talk to two people or more each day and so far I have talked to one. I wonder where the other one will come from.
There is always a surprise when you connect with others on a constant basis. It is not a chore but simply a way of life. Using this way of life to direct your business is always the easiest. I just checked my emails and lo and behold, an email from someone I have not talked to in years. I guess this will be person number two for me today.
By the way, if you are interested in Social Media consider registering for the summit being held online and Live in Sedona. http://socialmediamastermindlive.com/ The date for the event is January 14 and 15, 2010

Day 62
Interesting response when I finally talked to my friend, she said no one confirmed with her although I have the email stating that time and date works for me. I will take the ownership of this one. It is a lesson for me to make sure I follow up the day before a call to re-confirm, at least this way I will have better control on those that are going to bail out.
Today my face is in a lot of pain and I was not too sure how I would connect with anyone at all! It hurt to move, talk and even sit up. Thank goodness for all the emails I had been sending! One of my customers is now putting herself on autoship to get the product when she wants it. Although she is only ordering the tablets, it is a good start. I emailed her back and told her exactly how to handle the transaction and if she had any problems she could call me. She was also made aware that I keep a small stock in hand just in case a customer needs the product before their shipment arrives.
On another note, today we left a gift and card for our postal worker that has been servicing our home for the past 7 years. Although I cannot go outside and talk to anyone yet (my face is too sore) I was sure to pass on a happy holiday wish.
Tomorrow is Christmas eve and I am sure there will be a flurry of last minute shopping. I will send out a special reminder to my customers about ordering for the new year.
One last thing today, I am putting on a twice a month webinar for developing business skills and will be looking for guest speakers. Who better than someone I had sponsored. I sent a query to find out their availability for January 12th. The topic is how to network effectively when attending a trade show. Should be a great talk! And help him to promote his events at the same time.

Day 61 Recorded Session
I am including my first recorded session so that I can get your feedback. Listen and let me know what you think.

Day 61
Now for the big challenge, it is one day after the surgery and I am sore, my eyes are swollen so it is difficult to see much. I am still working and getting meetings planned, working on spreadsheets and generally doing my day job. I do have to shut my eyes quite often so I can see properly for a few minutes at a time.
My challenge, once again is talking to two people. As it turns out, I had a post-op visit at the clinic today and listened intently to the burse on duty – she is expecting a child at the end of January. I will see her again just after Christmas when I have my stitches taken out.
I called a friend of mine to talk and share a three-way call at our appointed time. She was not at home and did not return my call – next!
Not to waste my time, I called Jim Britt about the call I was doing today for developing business skills. He intently listened to what I had to say. He wants to hear the recording to see if it is something where we can develop a product to help MLMers in the future. Since talking to him, I recorded my presentation and it turned out fantastic (I think perhaps I like the sound of my voice – it is gently yet forceful). I have forwarded the link to him and if you email me, I can also send the link to you for comment.
The day is not done and I have a lot more to do but my eyes are VERY sore right now and I do not want to strain them. I will sneak back into my computer later and make more plans for Activities for myself.

Day 60
Monday and here I am getting ready for some eyelid surgery. I am wondering to whom I shall speak today bout the business opportunity, or better yet to whom shall I listen. My goal is still two people no matter what.
My first individual was the nurse administering my medication before my procedure – he had a great story about himself. He has an 8 year old daughter, works at the clinic and is a musician that writes rap music. I asked him what excites him most. His response was nothing in particular, that was just his life. I suppose that I will talk to him again for post operative procedures and then talk about what our company has to offer. I think his interests are very cool, especially when it comes to doing things with his daughter!
Now who else today? It might prove to be a bit difficult since I will be lying down having the doctors’ work on my face. I did find, though, the doctor was going on vacation to see his parents and that he loves his employment. I will get to know him better after the Christmas break. So that was number two.
The procedure took much longer than expected – my doctor is very good at being a perfectionist. It seemed forever at times but I needed the rest. It also gave me a lot of time to think about the business and how I was going to move forward.
I must admit, my sleep this evening was tough as I had a lot of pain in my back from lying down so long. Thank goodness for my husband, he is a gem and is looking after me well.

Day 59
I know one of the most difficult things to do is be consistent with your work. It would be so easy to just forget about talking to at least two people and stay at home and read. It would also be very simple not to add to my daily blog (you are probably aware that everything can get in the way). I was about to go to bed and do some reading when I realized I had not written anything today.
In the light of being consistent – I am writing in my blog and I did talk to several people today. I do not always talk about business; however, I did talk business to one person. He was interested but was going to pass my card to someone that really gets into the MLM business methodology. I am always happy to keep talking and keep handing out the business cards.
As I mentioned earlier in this blog, I am putting together a WebEx class on how to do business. This means working MLM like a business and using business skills. The first class is this coming Tuesday and I want to have a good slide deck ready to go so that my audience learns something and they have something to take away with them. I hope to gather a big crowd (eventually) as most people are preparing for Christmas which is only 5 days away. This first session will be to gather topics of interest and offer some good business tips. Everything will be recorded and I will have these sessions available on my blog as we move forward.
I also purchased a flip camera (from Cisco Systems) to do some recording of video for YouTube, My Blog, Face book and so on – the intent is to write some scripts, film them and post the info. I am full of ideas on a Sunday night. The important part is to calendarize these ideas and do them. I refuse to buy into static action!

Day 58
Saturday and a sunny day! I talked to three people so far today. One to help their daughter and fiancé get back on their feet and start earning some income. This one is a definite possibility. On the other hand the parents want to look and see if it is a product they would like to use. The final card I handed out was to a neighbor that wanted contact information for my husband (for making wines). And the day has just begun – I am about to buy some Christmas presents while my husband is out riding his bike with a group of friends.
I also received another check from LifeVantage – that is the third one I have received so far. I like getting money when I am not sure where it came from!

Day 57
Today I have several meetings for work and my day is tied up defining business strategies. However, I am going to attend my service club meeting at noon so I will have a chance to interact with others about the product.
Later today I am going to visit a doctor’s office and will take my materials there as well. I will have plenty of opportunity to share the information and I intend to share it.
I got an email response from a person that was interested but travelling, I am going to set up a three way call with her and Jim Britt so that she will be able to decide what is best for her.
Well I did manage to connect with two people but not the two I thought and the places I went. One was at the mall, this was a person that had sold me a BlackBerry a few years back at a Cellphone store and then had changed jobs and he happened to be the sales person that set up my Bluetooth at the new store. He remembered me and gave me a big hug! He also took my card and promised to look at the site! I guess you never know when you keep talking to people and being positive!
The second person was someone I had socialized with in the past, played tennis, rode bikes and shared the common interest in belonging to a service club. I gave him my card with a quick explanation but unsure if he will even look (he is soooo wrapped up in his own world! But—he was impressed with my husband’s and my great weight loss). So once again, we shall see….
On another note: I have been buying and reading books that help to keep me positive and one of the big issues that comes up everywhere is the fact we all need to avoid or not socialize with negative people. I totally agree as there is always someone to burst your bubble. You just have to make it their problem and not yours.

Day 56
Here it is Thursday and I have not made any phone calls. I need to start calling people and my only excuse is that I am tired when I get back home from work. Today I have a full calendar of meetings and work to complete and I am going to schedule in some calls. Now let’s see if I can get past the static action stage I am going through this week. Maybe I need someone to make me accountable for my actions in this business. I have some ideas about having a sales type meeting with a contest that ensues for the most calls and appointments made.
I went on to a training call tonight and it always reinforces my training and my enthusiasm. The call drove home some really salient points. There are 6 components that help to drive this business home.
1. Use the product and share it with others (this is an easy one for me and it is on my calendar as a daily task. Get the people to watch the video. Be committed to do the business (100%) until it happens.
2. Share the business opportunity (some people will ask about it and that is your clue to tell them. If you are asked if it is Network Marketing, say YES. Be proud of the fact it is and this is the hottest way to do business)
3. Follow-up with everyone! Find ways to keep following up and be constant with your follow up.
4. Build a team. Sponsor 5 and sponsor another 5 and get them signed up underneath those 5. You can also find another 5 to go deeper.
5. Look for leaders. You want to have 5 leaders somewhere within your organization.
6. Be a self-manager. This is where I am going to be doing a weekly call on business skills. It is a WebEx event so look at www.BigBlueCalendar.com and look for 4 pm (Pacific Time) on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Join us for some great business skills (and various speakers)
I still have to talk to two people today but I did follow up with three so far through email and setting up three way calls. I have a hair appointment at 6 pm tonight and perhaps I will find those people there.
I talked extensively with my hair dresser and she is starting to push the product to her customers and her family. I talked to a couple of people at the shop today.

Day 55
The days seem to go so quickly! My workload at my job is getting heavier and heavier but it is still very enjoyable. It looks like I am able to take some of the six sigma training and perhaps look at getting my green belt. That will be great!
In the evening I went to my weight management class for the first time in a couple of months. It was great to see the people I had met through the program and find out how they are doing on the maintenance side. It looks like not as good as they would like it to be. Being the ever optimist and ever business person, I took the opportunity to hand out my new business cards with my product website. This time I managed to connect with 6 new people.

Day 54
I spent my day driving between appointments and then finally getting to the work I am being paid for. I really enjoy my day job as it has challenges and adds the opportunity to work and network with others. Today was no exception. I was able to talk to 2 co-workers about the product and passed out my cards. There is my two for the day! On top of that another person that I thought would not join has been asking me about the opportunity! Well Hello – but once again is this going to be static action or something that really happens.
Let’s see what tomorrow brings as there may be a decision as to getting a few people in my down line beyond just what I have been doing. I think sometimes we all need a boost to get over the wall and then we can start running. I must admit is does get a bit discouraging at times. I do know, however, that if I quit, there will be nothing and if I keep being persistent, there will be a reward.

Day 53
At the seminar I attended a couple of days ago, the speaker mentioned “Static Action”. I have been thinking about what is meant by that oxymoron and how it applies to at least 90% of the people I come in contact with everyday. They agree to an action and give promises of what they will do AND NOTHING happens!
So you know people like this? I know I am sometimes guilty of the same thing. It is a difficult task to overcome such a behavior. I have many people that are interested in the product and would like to start taking it or they want to become involved in some aspect, then they do nothing to make it happen for themselves. I guess it all comes down to their dream is still a dream of great health and even greater wealth. They do not have the ability to get out of the status quo and start doing something for themselves.
Is it perhaps that the challenge of creating your own business or being your own boss too difficult? It is NOT difficult; it IS a lot of work without a doubt. I think it is important to keep following up with those that suffer from static action and help them make a good decision for their needs (and not mine).
Today I have several people to follow up with and help them with their decision.
You never know where things will take you when you talk to people. I just got off the phone with a person I met 4 years ago and is a fire fighter. He is into natural healing and mostly giving back to the community. He is excited about using the product, plus he will be sharing the video with his wife tonight. Perhaps (and I say this all the time), I will have another customer on the product.

Day 52
Sunday today and I am working on talking to at least two people today. I have had to do some shopping today but I am still working on the business.
I did talk to two people today and was glad I did. I connected them together for another project I am working on with the fire fighters in New York. I think there may be some more You’re My Hero books coming out for the Oakland fire fighters in the future.
I also set up a conference call with Jim Britt and a prospect. The call will take place on December 22 while Jim is traveling for some vacation time. This contact will open up Sedona for me if it works out. I know I have to keep many may irons in the fire in order to get a few to ignite. Maybe this will be one of them!

Day 51
Here it is Saturday and I will be attending a full day training from Jim Britt at a hotel in San Jose. My husband actually agreed to attend with me on the basis he would learn something to apply to his own business. In reality, the methodology used for MLM is not different from other business models. We all want referrals and we all want product evangelists, so why do people pooh-pooh this business model?
My guess is that some of the people that get into the business are pushy and really do not listen to their prospects for either the product or the business opportunity. I am hoping that I am a good listener and can help others achieve their dreams through what I have to offer. It is the approach that really counts.
The seminar was good and not really what I expected. There were two speakers and both absolutely excellent. We did some group work and met a couple of people that could possibly join the business. They were not invited by anyone in particular so I gave them my card and told them to do some research and get back to me when they were ready. Like anyone else, some will and some won’t, I hope they do not fall into the category of static action.
My husband got a lot from the seminar and talked to Jim Britt just before it was Jim’s turn to talk. As a result, my husband will be working on websites and working as the quarterback in interpreting needs and technology (at which he is absolutely excellent). Instead of payment in full for the work, he will be negotiating people for our down line plus some costs. I think it is a good deal and it will certainly help us to start building deeper into our organization.
I also got an email back from a fellow Rotarian that he will be buying the product and passing the info on to people he knows, especially his son (whom I know). You never know what may happen – just keeps me going!

Day 50
Friday at last! – tomorrow we are attending a seminar but today we have a Rotary meeting, a party to attend and lots of work to do in-between all of this.
At Rotary today, one of the members approached me and wanted to be a customer – I will connect with him on Sunday to get his order. I am happy to have another customer on the go.
One of the customers I tried to bring on board is trying to talk my other customers out of buying my product. She is manipulating them to buy something she is on. Not too happy with this and I will find a way to turn it around. Her ethics are certainly in question in my mind. I trust everyone until they prove me wrong. I have been burned in the past and will continue to get burned but the percentages are pretty small so I am more than happy to trust everyone.
I also got an email response from an old friend that I would love to have in the business. I responded immediately with the link and she is taking a look at it as she is not involved in anything right now. I have three or four in the hopper that might turn for me right now and would be a very happy person if they all came on board.
So off to the party – I still have to cook something to take so it will be a rush as it is a 2 hour drive to get there through the rush hour traffic in the rain. It will be worth it as she is looking at the business and wants to have it introduced to all her guests. If any of her guests want to sign up, I am sure she will do it first to make sure she has a good start. Let’s see what happens!
I am not sure if parties are the ideal situation when working with the hostess; however, it is great when talking to the guests. We did not stay long because my husband has allergies to cats and they had three. I did talk extensively to a guest that was currently unemployed and wants to look at the opportunity. I always keeping in mind my business and sharing it with others. It seems to be slow and I recognize that but I am not giving up as I know in the long run I will win.

Day 49
Lots to do today. I have meetings and holiday celebrations throughout my work day. It should be interesting to see the talent contest at work – we only get to see the three finalists but at least we get to vote.
I am taking samples of the product with me today to give to some of the admins at work. They have been asking so I will supply it to them. I have my labels already printed so should not be a problem getting them attached before I leave for work.
I handed out three product samples today and all are interested in giving them a try.
Today we had two celebrations at work - one for the 25th anniversary of the company with two guest celebrities performing – yes, we had Natalie Cole and Jerry Seinfeld as performers, live!!!!! What a treat! We will all be getting 25 year jackets for our participation!
The second event was in the manufacturing building (that no longer manufactures anything) with the Burnt Factory band – another great treat. I was lucky and was able to use a new Flip camera to record a lot of the event and upload it to the company cvision site. We had lots of fun and lots of networking plus a great deal of camaraderie at the event. Networking always pays off.

Day 48
Wow, the time really flies. Here it is in the middle of the week. Today I am going to meet an old friend for lunch. I am putting all my business materials into the trunk of my car just in case I need to pass out samples.
At the end of the lunch meeting, my friend expressed a real interest in reselling the product. It is actually her husband that is interested. I am so thankful I filled my truck with materials as I was able to give her reading material on the product. I do hope they decide to join.
Later this evening I spoke with another old friend that is a firefighter. I am trying to connect him with a project I am working on with the New York firefighters. He talked to me about some of the acts of kindness he is involved in and showed an interest in working on a similar project. At the end of this conversation, he also wanted more information on my products and I sent him the link to check out the video. I just keep sharing the product and my experience with everyone.

Day 47
It is class time in a few minutes for me. I am looking forward to doing this presentation on how to make effective use of WebEx as a meeting medium.
I did not have much time to work on the business today but I did find time to talk to several people about the product.

Day 46
Today was great. I was able to get some fitness completed in the morning before my day started at work. My regular job consumes my time and really engages me. I do not spend time working the business during work hours as it would be a divider of attention and nothing of greatness would be accomplished. We have to be in the now when at work.
The evening is different, tonight I connected with three key people to try and bring them on board. I will continue to connect everyday until I get a response one way or the other.
I also got a call from one of my distributors who has an extensive network of people he connects with. He gave me some of the names of the people he felt would work well for his network. I will help him in getting those folks connected and start his down line. We must have talked for over an hour before I had to call it quits and go to bed. I have an early class I am teaching in the morning on presentation skills through the web.

Day 45
I had a hard time sleeping last night with all the fighting I did with my husband last evening. I tossed and turned about giving up and just working for a living and hoping I would have enough for retirement soon. By the time morning came around, I was able to sleep a bit and the negative stuff was gone. I am now putting a plan together to get people signed up under each of my distributors.
I did some planning today and emailed a few friends.

Day 44
I love Saturday and here it is again! I went to a client meeting with my husband today and we got the chance to explore two new areas in the Bay today. It was great seeing the small towns. We love to explore!
Just before we left the last one, we went into a Sushi bar to have our afternoon snack. Actually it was more like a very early dinner. While we were eating at the Sushi Bar, three young men were at the table behind us and being very boisterous. Eventually we got into their conversation. As a result, one of them was into natural cures and I handed him my card. Once again, it is spreading the word.
Later that day we managed to get our car towed away because of a parade. Very expensive outcome – money and a big fight with my husband. He really dug his heels in and said he absolutely hated MLM, did not agree with any of the principles and I was basically all on my own to make it work. I do thank him for what he did by attending the trade show but I am not to ask him to participate again. Interesting! I guess I am disappointed, no, I take that back, I am very disappointed but I am not going to give up. I do have 3 distributors that I will be working with to get this going!
After retrieving the car, we went to our annual Rotary Christmas party. Had lots of fun and I was able to give my card to two more people, letting them know what I was up to these days (I did it as we were all leaving for home).

Day 43
Here it is Friday again! Lots of work to do to follow up from both trade shows. Today I organized my follow-up for next week and prepared to move forward with more Christmas style advertising to my friends and family. I had intended to go to a meeting in another city tonight but was unable to attend because of family commitments.
I will talk to others in my up and down line to find out what the new compensation plan will be.
I also watched a program on TV late evening about personality types and how to deal with the fear mid set. I am going to go and buy the book tomorrow so that I can work harder on being successful.

Day 42
Here it is the day with two trade shows. Thank goodness I was able to borrow a banner for one of them! I had my husband look after the big trade show in San Jose while I did the smaller one in Pleasanton. It seems that the one I attended had a number of women interested in the anti-aging products and there should be half a dozen become preferred customers for the salon.
My husband on the other hand brought home a dozen cards which I will follow up with tomorrow and the beginning of next week. He came home complaining about the show and the uselessness of it because people did not come near his booth. I think there were likely some but not as many as there could have been. I am not sure if trade shows are ideal yet. If I sign up 1 person, then it is worth while!
I also got on the weekly call and talked about what I could do at a trade show. The best thing was to show the video (we forgot to bring the speakers so no one could hear it) and keep showing it. I should also be asking for cards so that we could connect with them again to give then the website to view it away from the crowd. It seems that this product needs to be introduced differently.
Another great learning moment was how to conduct home parties. You are to call them In Home Business Introduction Events or Private Business Receptions. The point is to talk about why you got involved with the company, second to show the video for a detailed explanation on the product and third to give testimonials of people using the products today. Finally is to talk about the trends in the industry. I am definitely going to do some receptions to really get this business moving.
Right now I am very tired from working all day and then doing the trade shows – takes time to promote products that are relatively unknown. I am also contemplating going to Sacramento tomorrow for the evening announcement of the new compensation plan. Sounds exciting and it may offer more the hair salons with their preferred customer base.

Day 39/40/41
Early morning and I am still excited about the business. I am looking at adding some articles to my ezine article account and see where that goes as well. I have to change my bio at the end of the articles to reflect the new materials. Lots of busy work, but I still am connecting with people everyday. I am following the six rules: use the product, share it with others, follow up, go to all the meetings, help others build their team and find leaders.
I was looking through Craig’s list today for people that are looking for a job. It seems most people don’t think MLM is worth their while. I still believe that MLM is not given the benefit of the doubt. Being in an MLM business does mean you have to recruit (although it is part of the building your business process). You can simply sell the product to your own set of preferred customers. If you build a big enough customer base, some will decide to join the company and resell to others as well. Whatever you do, you customers and down line will do. People learn your success steps and follow along without fail.
I would think that you would want to have a customer base on the product before you recruit them. There is nothing like a success story of being on the product like the one you have for yourself. For me, I am really sleeping more soundly, have more energy and now I am starting to lose some extra pounds (I had already lost 75). There are other benefits as well, I really love networking with people and helping them achieve their dreams. Now is my chance to do that and make myself healthier at the same time.
On an interesting side note – a friend that came by the get samples is going to show her acquaintance in another MLM company all the literature so they can compare their product to ours. It should be an interesting conversation, especially when it comes to the research component side. Most products have research and it is usually paid by the company owning the product. I wonder how they will differentiate themselves – I hope the research they have looks at each ingredient and the combination form to get the results.
I am going to the area meeting tonight and hopefully I can borrow a banner for the booth for the trade show on Thursday evening. I love going to these events from http://InfoBayArea.com . I put together a prize basket that will contain samples, brochures, a good book, food, and beverage.

Day 38
Up early as it is time to get ready for work. I am working on making sure my blog is up to date and that I will soon be able to catch up with all the posts. I feel it is important that I do something everyday to market my business and sell my products.
It will be interesting and see what comes around the corner today. I will be sending new emails today to market products for the Christmas season.
I have now over 5000 people in my mailing list and still have a few more to work on to get the final numbers. I downloaded all my approved people from Spamarrest, LinkedIn and now working on my PayPal list(for those that purchased my best selling book “Networking: 150 ways to promote yourself).
In the evening, we went for our usual walk around the mall. One of the kiosk people was trying hard to sell us product – I gave him a card and told him a bit about the product. I asked him to go to the website and look at the video and the next time I saw him at the mall, I would like his opinion.
We worked on doing some flyers (mostly my husband with my input) and he did a great job. Now to finalize all the materials for the trade show.

Day 37
Monday again and back to work! I love my work including working on this project. Certainly lots happening from the ball that I pushed down the hill.
My friend actually showed up and was interested in the products, she took home the information so that she could show her husband ( a go getter that is over 80).she is considering taking the caplets alongside of him. Once again, I never hold my breath; I just wait and see --- next!! One thing that was good for me was practicing my spiel about the products.
I spent my evening following up with a few individuals and I think we may have a person signing up under one of my new recruits – that would be awesome! Once again, no breath holding until it happens for sure.
Jim Britt is going to be holding a daylong seminar on a weekend just before Christmas and again in January. I registered for the one in a couple of week’s time. I am also sending out the info to a lot of my contacts.
And the best part of today – I received my first check from signing people up!!! I scanned it so that I can keep a good record of the money I make. This is the first of very, very, very many I will receive. I know it sounds like a long time for the effort to the first pay but the groundwork is necessary, no matter what business you are in.

Day 36
Ok, it is Sunday and I did not do anything to sell product today, however, I did do some more reading on getting myself into a rhythm of daily, weekly and monthly activities that will lead to more business. As I was reading, I began to realize that you cannot skip over any of the steps to success without loss of business. I am the first one to want to do the short cut to get ahead fast but according to what I read, that short cut does not allow you to learn what is necessary all along the way. Yes, you may get a few steps further down the road ahead of everyone else, but everyone else is learning techniques that will allow them to finish first.
A short cut is OK if you know what you have to circle back and complete. I know for me it is that dreaded phone call follow-up. I know that if I just keep practicing it will get easier each time. And it is that practice that will allow me to get my script down pat without faltering. I try to practice ahead but somehow when I talk to people, I miss some of the important points. I am going to keep practicing and doing live calls this coming week plus sending out “sales” for Christmas blasts at the same time.
And I thought I was not doing any business today. I just got a call from someone in Rotary that had asked me to help with some conference items. It turns out that they did not need me (grin) and that there would be something for me to do later (another grin). It just so happens that this person wants to know more about my products and is willing to try them. She will be meeting me at my house tomorrow, we shall see!

Day 35
It is a beautiful and windy day today, a bit cold but gorgeous. Today my husband will be pressing grapes at the vineyard where he is the wine maker. This will give me some time to catch up with my MLM business and also with my volunteer plans. I am looking forward to a partial day on my own. I could even think about some Christmas shopping at the same time.
I have an eBlogger problem to solve with not being able to cut and paste my text into the editor space. I will figure it out as I do not want to retype all of my text from this document – that would be totally onerous!
I must admit that I am excited about being a part of the trade shows this coming week. I want to have good marketing materials ready for each event. I just know that I will find several people to become members of the group under the trade show owner. I really want to get his 5 and work with them to get 5 each from the same event. That would be supreme!
As for the other trade show, I have an appointment to meet with the hair salon owner today at 2. I am not sure how she will handle the information. I am hoping she will buy the $50 distributor package and I can sell to her clients to help her build her business. I know it seems like a lot of work but if I do not help others build their portion, then I do not build mine.
That is another complaint from my husband that I spent time helping others get their people. Well that is the way it works. I am still working at getting my main 5 and although I have 2 signed up, I am working on my 3rd today. I will help each one of those build their end so their people can learn from the process and build their own. I am looking forward to building a bigger team and helping them build theirs.
Well I now have another distributor. That makes 3 for me now – I want two more and then I can start working on getting one more for each of my 5. This is the recommended formula. It helps me and encourages others to do the same.
My husband helped me get the last distributor on board and is willing to do one of the trade shows this coming Thursday. I almost fell over when he said he would do it. I think he is starting to soften on the topic but is not there 100%. I must give it to him that he is on the product and seems to like it.
We went for our usual walk in the around the mall today (gives us 3.5 miles of walking) and we gave out a business card to two potentials at the mall. One a sales person in a major retail establishment that we know and wants to make more money and another to someone that sold me some products from a kiosk. The person at the kiosk likes to make lots of money doing many different things. We shall see if they look at the video and decide to come on board. I do have the contact information for each one of them.
As you can probably guess by now, I solved the cut and paste problem with my blog. I will post 7 days at a time to catch up to what is happening each day. It is fun to use social sites to promote and discuss your problems.
I also found a lot of meet up groups where I can find business as well. It looks like my evenings will be quite full moving forward.
Now it is time to go and relax a bit, perhaps read more of Jim Britt’s “Do This, Get Rich” to gain more ideas and to really establish myself as a real entrepreneur that has chosen an MLM product to sell.

Day 34
Black Friday – interesting concept – lots of cars in parking lots and tons of people in the stores. Today is a day of thinking about the next steps. Doing some exercise on the Wii with “My Fitness Coach” and then having company for a few hours to discuss a project they are working on. It always seems that when I get really busy with a couple of projects that more come out of the woodwork. Although I am interested in helping with their project, I do believe that I have minimal time to devote to it. My main focus is my MLM although I can still do other things.
Another discussion with my husband about him taking over one of the trade shows for me but to no avail. He firmly thinks that MLM is not a real business and it is just a big scam. I know there are many people that think that way and those are the ones that I will not waste my breath on. It is unfortunate that he will not get on board with me to make this fly. Just another obstacle I need to find a way around.
I am wondering if he is willing to spent the spoils from the venture when it comes in. The answer is a resounding YES. I think that is the only way he will change his mind, but will it be too late for me to want to share the fruits of my hard work? I am debating about setting up a separate account just for this project so I can better measure the success, and so I can pay him for any time he works on some of the marketing materials.
I did not connect with anyone today except our company. I did not send my 10 emails yesterday or today but will resume after the long weekend. You may ask why – too many advertising emails and blasts on this particular weekend and I want mine to stand out from the crowd.
My next series of emails will be for people to purchase product only – a good email advertising campaign!
This evening I finally had some time to do some reading. I did not read a lot but I scoured the text to make sure I understood the concepts and could apply them to my situation. I began to realize that the mindset and my actions were not in as much synchronization as they should be. It is something that I need to work on.

Day 33
Wow it is a holiday today and I have been working on getting that turkey into the oven all morning. Done and now I can relax but here I am on my computer – go figure. I know that I need to get my next list of names into my database. I started working through my LinkedIn profile and found a way to export my contacts, so now I have another 455 connections to talk to. I am debating about having a Christmas email for getting on the product. I will have to integrate the message into a place to purchase the product. I will do some test marketing and see where it goes.
The power of social networking is going to be my friend. I have my LinkedIn account with close to 500 connections, my FaceBook account for personal stuff that is going on and I even have a Twitter account that I rarely use. I will post the same info on each to see where they take me.
I understand that video is the way to go to get your point across and market your product. I am hitting everyone I know with buy from me and see where it takes us!
Now to get working on my own website and get other sites to re-direct there. Perhaps I will use the main site to do so for now – no decisions as I cannot get my husband to get to it.
I guess I mentioned that I am double booked for trade shows one evening next week and trying to get some help at one so I can go to the other. I am hoping my up line will take care of the big show and I can do the smaller one with my hairdresser. Both my recruitees are extremely important to me and I need to help them get their people together. The question is: How do I service both and do a good job at the same time? Good problem to have but I definitely need big help with this one. You may ask would my husband do it? Maybe but I am not holding my breath.

Day 32
I have to get my list expanded and it means some hard work to gather all the information together. I refuse to quit my email campaign even before a celebrated holiday. It will be my task this evening to get ready for another month of emails – that means 300 more names will go into my database.
I met with another distributor for coffee today, she is in another down line but we discussed how to use some of the social marketing components to spread the word. She is more interested in her other MLM than the one I am working on. She only plans to use the product and not push too hard on the business side, although she will be enrolling her neighbor over the weekend. Just goes to show you that the product is excellent and the word will start to snowball – I want to be the one pushing it!
My husband and I went for a walk (3.5 miles) and dropped in to one of my prospect’s businesses. I have a set up an appointment to see her on Saturday to get her application processed. I also will help her get her website up and running. A good way to end the day.
I also got a phone call from an author friend of mine that expressed an interest in using one of the products. That was out of the blue but just maybe she will get into the business with me – you never know. I also connected her with a friend of mine in Sedona – they will hit it off nicely.

Day 31
Busy day with me teaching a class for 4 hours then adding another 4 to 5 hours of meetings at my regular job. I did not think that I would be able to get my emails out as planned. But I did get it done. I still have not put more names into the hopper but I am finding that 10 per day is a lot to follow up with. I will wait and see where it gets me in the short term.
I also talk about the product every chance that I can get. It leads me to places I did not think possible. I mentioned it to someone at work and lo and behold they wanted to have the site address and how to order the product.
Another surprise came with someone I thought was extremely skeptical about anything like this asked how he could buy the product.

Day 30
Here it is Monday again. I got up a little later than usual for a work day. I got my 60 minutes of exercise completed. The system put me on a cardio program today, so now I feel really good and raring to go.
I had such a great weekend connecting with people. I had emails responses with phone numbers and a request to call them today, people that I connected with face to face while out shopping and yet more for displaying on tables as trade shows.
I have set aside an hour or two today to follow up with those calls. If I do not follow up, the connection will be lost. I am also sending out my 10 emails but with a few repeats because they have requested a resend.
I will also have to populate my master contact list with the 70 for this week. This certainly makes it easier for the daily send. If I had to find new contacts each day to send out the emails before I head out to my job, I would likely give up or not get it done on a regular basis.
This business is interesting and even though it takes big numbers to make progress, I am finding that there are moments of great momentum and moments with a lull. It is in the lull that I need to spend more time planning to push harder and do more to connect with others.
Funny business, the model is great but there are many people that do not believe in it at all and do not consider this to be a real business. Frankly, I had a big discussion with my husband yesterday and he absolutely does not like the model and thinks I am brain washed into thinking it is a real business and there is money to be made. However, he is willing to “bill” me for his time to create flyers, CD auto run items and so on.
He does not seem to remember earning a free vacation to Surf City a couple of years ago with all the expenses paid based on sales made. Nor does he remember the extra income earned before I took on a full time job. But I guess when you have an opinion and are firm on that opinion, there is nothing that can sway you away. Even Peter Drucker and Warren Buffet talk about network marketing as a viable way to make money. Warren Buffet even owns an MLM company and I am sure he does not do so lightly – there must be money there somewhere.
I find that I have an open mind and that there are endless possibilities available. If one thing does not work, then I am looking for another way to achieve success. So far, my experience is good, no one has really been negative although some do not like MLM style businesses, most have open minds.
I am happy to say that I am moving forward more quickly each day. I have 2 paid people in my down line and have 3 more in the wings plus at least 10 more with high probability.

Day 29
Sunday morning and another great day to celebrate. I am constantly waking up with new ideas on how to better fill up meeting rooms. I am going to try a couple of them later today for the meeting in 10 days time (after Thanksgiving). I need to work on my brochures, flyers, postcard designs today and get them printed for the trade shows. I will likely print them at home to start with good paper especially die cut for my laser color printer.
Yes, my 10 emails are being sent as well. I am now adding the person notes and asking for the best phone number to call. I will see what the response is later this week. Hopefully people will be still working on Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Wow – you never know what is going to happen every day you go out and do your shopping. I am also certain to take my business cards with me these days just in case I meet up with anyone. Today was no exception for meeting with those in the long past. Both of the people I connected with today, I had sent emails talking about my new venture. I gave them each a business card and had them promise to view the website listed therein. Each said they would and I told them I would follow up in a day or two to talk about the business opportunity. I have now calendarized the phone call follow ups. I know each of them will at least give me a referral.
Now I am working on getting the CDs ready to cut with Light Scribe disks I just purchased at Fry’s. I plan on cutting 25 CDs to start and see how they turn out.
It took almost 3 hours to get the files right and to publish them to a CD. We decided to create a personalized auto loading web page that will play the video right away. It also made it easier to personalize the links to go to my website. This way I can customize for everyone in my down line. The CDs look great when using light scribe – the logo and the contact information are etched into the CD itself.

Day 28
I am feeling good about my progress so far. I hesitated about sending my emails today as I am getting to the end of my weekly list. But, as I said before, it is like brushing your teeth every morning and now it is a habit to get them out. The hesitation was short lived and the emails went out.
I had to attend a service for my cousin today so I brought some business cards just in case someone asked me for one. It turned out that I gave the card to 3 inidividuals. I ask them to go to the website and view the information on the video. All promised, but we will see.
Today we are working on creating a brochure from the pdf I was given from the company. I want to have them personalized so needed to add my contact info. I am also looking at creating a CD (small style) to hand out at meetings etc.

Day 27
Here it is Friday and it is windy, rainy and generally not pleasant outside. I woke up a couple of times during the night with ideas for increasing my sponsorship activities and will try and remember what I was thinking.
My 10 emails have gone out and again I added some personal notes to some of them. I noticed that at the meeting last night, those that had received the emails came over to me right away and chatted. I know for sure they are being read. Now is the challenge to get them to respond. I will be crafting a “gift” package for the holidays with pictures etc into the email. Hopefully I will get some more customers that way.
Today I started making some of my follow up phone calls. I always seem to dread doing these but today I got to it and signed up one distributor, talked to another person that is giving me referrals although he does not want the product or to do the business.
I am now booked into two trade shows at the same time for Dec 3. I am going to my upline to work one of them as there will be a lot of traffic going through. I want to follow through on my commitment to my hairdresser and convert her customers for her as well. That reminds me I have to make a one pager for her shop and order forms for the show. I want her to get at least 20 repeat customers and perhaps a couple of those helping her to sell.
I now have to follow up with the person that bought the caplets last night and take the next step to making him a repeat customer.

Day 26
Up early and sending out my 10 emails. This time I added a personal note about wanting to connect with the individual by phone. I asked the best times to talk plus the best number to reach them. I already have 5 people to follow-up with now and will try and do this while I drive to work, at lunch time or in the evening. I know most people like a during the day call.
My day is shrinking fast, many meetings at work plus I am meeting someone that I would like into the business for lunch. I am hoping that he will at least try the product and then talk business with me. I can also ask for referrals to really get over the top.
Wow, I showed my lunch business meeting partner the video from the website and from that point on was I am in! I have to find the money to do this, but I am in! Great – now to collect and get his money and his information into the system.
In the evening I attended a Rotary Charter night for a new club being formed in the district. It was a lot of fun and I sold a bottle of my product to someone that had responded to the email blasts plus his wife is also interested for herself.
I also connected with another person that is President of her club and she is interested in the facial cream. She also wants to get her sister on the caplets as well. I will be following up tomorrow to complete the circle.

Day 25
Up early and raring to go. Got my exercise in this morning by working on the lower body. 60 minutes of squats, lunges and weights – whew glad to have that over with, however, it does feel good!
My 10 emails have now gone out. Not a lot of responses over the last couple of days. I do need to find some time to call and follow-up. I forwarded my spreadsheet to my work address so I can look at it during my lunch break. Unfortunately I never did get a lunch break and now I am running between meetings. I did get a short break but wanted to add to my blogging.
I checked my emails and found another response from someone I did not think would respond. He wants me to call him and discuss the potential. I am always happy to follow up with that kind of response. I can hardly wait to find the time to give him a call.
I talked to my mentor, Jim Britt, this morning while driving to work and mentioned the process I was taking. Finding one person and working with them to build their part of the org and then looking for another person and then helping them. He did not frown at the idea (At least I could not see him frowning through the phone), but he had a better suggestion for me. He wants me to find and sponsor 10 people as quickly as I can. Place 5 people directly under me and then place one under each of them. Sounds good to me – I am still waiting for one to be placed under me!! I might mention that fact when I go to the meeting tonight!
He also had some suggestions on where to start prospecting for people to sponsor. Success Thinking Meet Up was one of the places and large networking groups is another. He wants me to approach people of the product side first. Get them interested in having more energy, living longer and being on the forefront of the anti-aging movement. I will put together my elevator pitch tonight and get going on it!
I hope to pick up more ideas from the meeting tonight.
I also learned about a training that is taking place on Saturday in Sacramento but I am already booked to have my cousin’s guest book from his funeral service taken to Stanford for signings. I still have to find out more about the arrangements. I believe I will meet lots of others at Stanford – it will be emotional but I would rather have his friends sign the book than worry about my business right now.
K – break is over and I am back to work ;-)
I went to the meeting for the product today and the guest speaker was a Chiropractor from Palo Alto. He talked a lot about the anti-oxidants and how they are produced in the body and why we do not get enough from the foods we eat. I was very inspired about what he had to say. He showed a lot of research on the product and the results. I have always been skeptical of research as usually they are paid by the company that wants it done. In this case, however, it was from outside sources.
I also learned that this company only has 11,000 distributors in the US and 11,000 in Mexico. This means we are really on the ground floor! I am more enthused than ever to find my next 25 people to sponsor.

Day 24
Wow does life ever get complicated! I got up early because I am teaching a class on Practicing Presentation Skills. I want to print out my materials and set up the classroom long before my students arrive.
I did not think I would have enough time to send my emails early this morning but like any habit, I could not leave the house without getting it done. You know how things bug you all day because you did not do them? I could not imagine going out of the house without brushing my teeth and so the 10 emails have fallen into that category for me.
I am also working on my “You’re My Hero” project that is (this time) based in New York. We are working with NY Firefighters to put out a book and get sponsors. The group is looking to me to connect them with Rotary. I did meet with a psst RI President last evening and he liked the project. I will drop off a book to his office today and get the one page summary from the publisher. I love working on projects such as these. It gives me lots of contacts and places to network.
Back to my MLM business. I am making a list of spas, hair salons, chiropractors etc. – these are the folks that I would like to have on my team as they have an appointment customer base. No retail sales there. I still have to make the flyer for the open house which is in two weeks – when I get home tonight I had better get that one done! No more last minute items needed.
Although I felt discouraged yesterday, today I work up very enthused about this business. I am constantly thinking about ways to get product into peoples hands! More when I get home later today.

Day 23
Today is not the best but I will get through it – I am feeling like I am trapped with having to work plus try to make money at the same time. I am involved with a non-profit project as well so my time seems so limited. I know I am on the right track, but I guess we all have doubts from time to time.
I have to get over my stuck or my fear or whatever it is called. I know once I get into the work of building my own business, I will feel much better. I guess I was hoping for better results by this time but if I quit, then it will not succeed. I am sending out my next 10 emails and prepare myself for the follow ups. I am still plugging away.
I guess I feel better when I send the 10 emails as some of the folks on my list I have not connected with a great deal of time. Most people are happy to hear from me and tell me to go for it – I need to go for it and get them to buy product or let me sponsor them.
I have a couple of follow ups that are crucial today so will see where they go – onward and upward, I do have a success mind, a belief in being successful and am working on making sure I feel successful.

Day 22
Another day, very cold outside today so I am planning on having a winter home in a warmer location. We are looking at San Diego as a great place to winter and perhaps use as a home base.
My next 10 emails went out this morning. I had some names on the list that were pretty famous people. I hesitated for a few minutes over sending them. I soon began to realize that they are people too and everyone that is concerned about anti-oxidants needs to know about my product. The emails flew from my outbox to the inbox of my 10 picks for the day.
I got to play some tennis today with my husband. Unfortunately he injured himself by twisting his ankle after we were 1 hour into the match. He is now keeping his leg elevated and will need to take some rest from sports for the next few days. Oh well, no more tennis for a couple of weeks. I did not for a walk around the mall (my usual 3 miler).
While in the mall, there was a young man that sells face creams. He approached me, as he usually does, to try his eye cream. Although I did not take up on the offer, I did go out of my comfort zone and give him my card with a request for him to view the video at the website listed. This is the first time I have approach a complete stranger about the possibility of them selling the product. I guess you never know – we shall see. It gave me more courage to talk to everyone that is stuck at a kiosk selling do dads to mall attendees. I will put together a better package for my next round – perhaps a brochure with my card attached.
I just checked my genealogy and the person promising to sign up under the person I sponsored has still not done so. Like chasing cats, no like fleas on cats! I guess he goes back into my follow up list!

Day 21
It is funny how you cannot stop thinking about business when you are in business for yourself. This journey has been one of thinking of the best ways to promote products and or sponsor another person to be successful. When you look at the beginning stages of a business, getting the business is the frustrating part.
I have sold 1 bottle, connect with a couple of hundred people, have 1 person sponsored, working on a couple more, planning a trade show and all without any income from the project.
If I quit now, then all is lost and I will have to start over again with another project. Quitting is obviously not the answer and perseverance is the way to go. But what are the opportunity costs? I guess your time becomes voluntary until the business starts to pay off. It is no different from spending thousands of dollars on a business that requires a store front, inventory purchases and you still have to market and get customers.
I see a parallel between this home based endeavor and one that is a store front. The difference being that the upfront costs are minimal in what I am trying to build. I have to keep focused on the product sales at every opportunity so that a customer based can be built. I guess it gets a bit frustrating at times and the help from the up line, although very good, is not a sounding board for all the business skills needed.
Perhaps there is room for letting people know what goes on each and every day of being in business for yourself. There is no letting go, no I can do that tomorrow – there is only today and so I sent my 10 emails out and researched my database to find the next 70 for the week. Interested process – I am seeing names of people that I had lost contact with and now is my chance to rekindle the friendship.
Ok – it is the weekend today and I still get pumped about the possibilities. I will work on my weekly plan and then execute it during the week (evenings and lunch time only for me).
Now it is getting more serious. I spent part of the evening planning how my website will start to drive traffic to the purchase of product. I have a general outline that I put together while eating dinner. It is clear that I have three principles in mind. First is my success mind, second the belief that this is the way for me to go and the third is feeling the success at every turn. According to Jim Britt these principles are the difference between really making it and letting it go. In my mind success is the only word available. Success will only come from continuing to be in business and have the business mindset.

Day 20
Wow on to Day 20 already, I feel like I am not getting as far as fast as I would like. But I guess that happens in any business. I got up early again to read my emails and send my 10 out. I always seem to get 3 to 4 responses for every 10 I send out. Today I actually got an order from one of the people that expressed high interest. I am brining a bottle of the caplets to my Rotary meeting today and will collect the money then. Another person that had previously responded indicated they will buy from the website. I am going to go and check on that one for sure. Nothing yet but the day is young!
My friend I signed up has now put his own webpage into action. He has the link now on his home page for his REI business. Let’s see what that attracts – hopefully he will be able to find several people for his down line. That would be perfect!
I need to now pump up the promo component so I can find two more great people to sponsor. I know that this is a lot of effort to get it going, and I also know that once it catches fire there is no turning back. Once customer at a time and one sponsored individual at a time. Best to focus on customers and get them on the product – that is where referrals will start to happen. Numbers, numbers, numbers got to hit those numbers.
I delivered my first bottle of product at the Rotary meeting today and collected the money! A first from a lot of emails. This is only the beginning of my journey and I had another query about the product from a person that was not on the radar screen yet. PLUS a potential distributor that is interested but has been overly busy so far. Yahoo, more to follow-up and perhaps more in my client and distributor list.
A small victory is a plus as we all have to start somewhere. I will keep building to have more in the interested column. But at least I have a good start. If I could get the same results in each month for sponsored folks and customers, it will be a build that is slow and deliberate. Can you imagine what I could do when it builds to the point where my regular job income is replaced? Yes – still in the planning stages but almost there!
I am having my daughter design a flyer and three fold brochure for me today. I want to post the flyers at my hairdressers to entice people to buy product. The brochure will be for people to read and buy product. Product first, business opportunity second, get people to love the products and using the regularly.
I am also excited about bringing my daughter into the business with me – she will be a big asset. I need to build the income to a level where I can pay her a decent amount of money. I have always wanted to have a business where my girls (2) were working with me. This opportunity is definitely one where this can happen.
You may ask where my husband is in all of this. He likes the idea of me being in business as long as he does not need to be involved. He is not keen on marketing, sales or sponsoring and would rather stay in his comfort zone. Not a good attitude for building a business so I prefer to work with my daughters to make this experience be the best possible. In other words, negativism and doubt is left behind. It will remain this way until he can let go of his stoppages.

Day 19
This morning I answered the price question and sent off the email to my prospect (now put in the interested spreadsheet). I will follow up in a day or so with a phone call to see where this goes.
I got up early to send my next batch of emails and then headed out for work. The day went by quickly as my job is incredible and the people I meet are so brilliant.
I dropped one of my new business cards for this company off at one of the administrators desk. She wants to know about the product – she will be looking at the web site when she gets home tonight. I am very determined that my job and my business never get mixed in together. It is important to separate the two to be effective in both arenas.
Back home now and I am looking through the responses from this morning’s emails. Another great surprise – another person wants to know the pricing of the product and yet another wants to know where to buy it. I have sent responses to both people and will follow up with both. I have 2 more potential customers.
Even though I do not have a lot of traction yet, I am very confident that I am on the right track for building my business. It takes time and effort in order to start turning a profit. I would think that after 6 months I will have a good customer base and at least 3 distributors that are very active. I already have 1 in my first line and 1 potential in my second line with possibly 4 customers. I am also booked to do a trade show with my hair dresser and should get more customers there. This business is build around repeat customers and also to satisfied ones.

Day 18
Good morning, nothing will discourage me on this venture. I am re-reading Jim Britt’s book “Do This Get Rich” and beginning to realize that I am in business and the sponsor portion is only a small part of what I need to do. I really need to have everyone look at the video and become customers first. Once they love the product, then the business opportunity may make sense for them.
I am sending out my next 10 emails today.
I have a REI meeting tonight where I will start promoting the product and speaker Jim Britt. Hopefully we can get some sign-ups to start. We shall see---just keep working it.
One potential client is still promising to sign up – he was filmed last night giving a testimonial to place on the REI site – singing the praises of Jim Britt. I am happy that he has decided to be a team member, now to actually get him to take action. I would normally be ready to give up on him, except for the fact that he is a good friend of the person running the REI and he really wants him in his down line.
He seems genuine but still not sure – I will keep following up to see where this goes.
The owners wife was there last night as well and she is encouraged about the potential of the business. I truly hope between the two of them they make the effort. I will keep coaching them to make sure they get well on their way.
At the meeting there was another person trying to sell the same products (and from my down line) inside my friends meeting. He was not too pleased and made note not to invite her again.
She was engaging people one on one all throughout the evening. I still wonder how far she would get doing this as there is no relationship established and she was not listening to others, just spouting her own business. I would think that forming a relationship, allowing others to talk about themselves, listening with intention would be a better approach. Unfortunately for her, her materials were sloppily presented, photocopied on an angle, her name was written in with a few cross outs where she made a mistake.
Once again I have an opinion about being sloppy with your presentation materials. I do not think it offers the professionalism that you need to convince others to buy from you. And what habits would she be teaching those that want to join her down line? It shows that she does not believe in her own wealth at this point in time. A few business skills need to be imparted.
When I got home I read my emails – wondering who would be responding to my emails I have been sending. Today I only had a couple. 2 stating they were impressed with my weight loss and congratulations. The other was a complete surprise. It was from someone that wanted to know the cost of the product as they were interested in being a customer.
Day 17
Wow up early again today with no time to spare. Off to work at 6:30 am to teach a practicing presentation skills course (4 hours plus). I did not have time to send out my emails this morning but I did send them early evening. I want to make sure I do not skip a day.
I am now into my membership lists but only picking the names of those that actually know me. I do not want to be put on a spam list for those that do not. My goal is to be introduced to those folks at a future meeting. Once introduced, I do not mind mailing them information.
Am getting 1 to 2 responses per day that I can add to my interested list. The follow up will take place in the evening time frame.
I managed to enter 30 or so more contacts into my database this evening so I am prepared to send another 10 emails today.

Day 16
Up early to get to a conference but still sent my 10 emails today. It is great being organized ahead of time so that all I need to do is put the names into the email and off they go. I will be at an Adobe Conference all day today so hope to collect some business cards and add them to my email list for tomorrow. I think I will take some time and write that ad for Craig’s list during the breaks (or socialize and meet more people).
I met some really wonderful people today in the eLearning space. It was really good to connect to others around the country. We had a lot in common and probably will continue the relationship beyond the conference walls. Will follow up with everyone tomorrow (they are all still at the conference for a few more days)

Day 15
I got up early even though it is Sunday, can’t stop thinking about ways to market this product and also to think about the best people to sponsor and add to my leadership team. I want to make sure this is treated like a business so regular sales meetings will be essential.
I am wondering if I could hire sales people on commission to get the product into appointment based locations (Chiros, Spas, Hairdressers, Nip & Tuck locations, acupuncturists, naturopaths and so on). I am looking at hiring on that basis but not sure how it would work, I am thinking that I will pay upon first sale and get that person set up at the minimal price as part of my management responsibilities – perhaps upgrade them when the sales start to come in more rapidly. I still have to think about it.
I have now sent my 10 emails to more friends. I got 1 response from yesterday’s emailing with “I am intrigued and will talk to my doctor about how I can also improve my health”. This may turn out to be a customer and perhaps they will also lose some weight as well.
I am nearly out of names off the top of my head for my email campaign. Now is the time to pull out the membership directories and add those names to my list. I am going to start looking at some networking clubs that I can attend and gather business cards. Hopefully I can find several in the local area. I am also debating about rejoining the eWomen network so I can attend meetings and gain more customers. Just a thought. I am trying to minimize cost; however, finding the best places to work it is optimal no matter what the cost.
I will be ordering face cream for the December 3 event and printing up application forms for auto ship at that time. I want to be able to work my hairdresser’s mailing list to gain regular customers for her. It is good to have great people working the business.
Now to work up a sales person wanted ad for Craig’s list. I also will twitter, linked in, facebook and ezine article push. I think picking on one thing new each week or two is plenty to start building the momentum. If I overwhelm myself with too much to do, I will likely want to throw in the towel. I know from experience, you have to pace yourself and do a few things well before adding more. In this business, burnout is a possibility and I want to make sure the people I work with do not face the same thing.
OK – on for the fun part of my day – finishing up on a presentation project for my day job and going on a bike ride for 50 miles with my husband. Gotta keep sane and gotta keep healthy!
The concert was incredible and we talked to two other people at our table and got to know them. It was Jean-Luc Ponti playing his violin, wow what incredible talent for his whole band!
