Friday again and it is time to start catching up with people. I have been making phone calls and connections even though the opportunity to connect is very limited. You have to do what is necessary to keep in contact with others. I still have a lot of follow ups on my plate and will get more done today.
I am loving the Olympic feel to Vancouver and am sad I will be leaving before the games begin. It has been another great experience visiting friends and family. However, I am looking forward to the journey back home next week.
Today is another rainy day (as typical for Vancouver) but the beauty still shines through! The rain is only on the surface. I guess that works for people as well You can never tell from the appearance whether there is a good person inside.
When we face uncertainty sometimes we balk and go back to actions that we know can be accomplished. It is difficult to set out and take a new path when you are uncomfortable or feel a sense of fear. Fear may grip you which in turn puts you into a position of retreat rather than advancement.
I am visiting my home country (Canada) and I found that a member of my family wanted to go to a location in the city at a time when I am at work. Even with all the preparation, the fear of getting lost stopped them in their tracks. The final decision was not to go unless I came with them. Interesting on how we cling to each other for support and yet are unable to move too far away (to a place that is not so comfortable). For me, I would explore and get lost. I would then work through the process to find my way back home. For others, they dare not venture.

Day 93/94/95 – Working While Travelling
Often when we travel, business is the last thing on our minds as we navigate parking, shuttles, getting through security, finding a meal, boarding the plane, renting cars and driving to the final destination. It was no exception for me. As we went through the process, we managed to arrive in tact into a country that does not have our product approved.
So how do you sell to a country that is not active? The first thing I have done is to pitch it to some friends of mine that have done many, many MLM projects. I have been bending their ear on what they think of the product and the compensation plan. So far they like what they hear.
So, how do I sign up people from this country? Not easy, you simply have to get them to fill out the form with the contact and shipping information, including the payment side of things. Then, I have to hold it until the time is right. So let’s see how that goes! I am still here for another 9 days so will have lots of time to think about what to do next.
In the meantime, I am still connecting with those that attended the seminar last week. I have a new distributor ready to sign up, another one that wants to go to a local meeting and yet another than wants to start on the product. I will be giving them all a call while I am here.
The time away also lends time back to think about how to handle the recruiting process. I have worked out a compensation plan for a sales person to help me while I work full time. This way I can dedicate my time away from work more strategically. I love having the opportunity to strategize and also read great books on building business.

Day 92 - A New Sales Idea
Friday sure rolls around quickly and now writing in this blog has truly become a habit. I really enjoy using social media to connect with others and still have a place where I can do a brain dump. Today I am doing the talk to people at my Rotary Club about health issues. I am also sending them to the website to see the video. I will phone call follow up with them later (next week). In the meantime, I will continue to follow up with the seminar attendees.
I had a thought about a different way to grow this business. I am generally thinking about hiring a few sales folks on commissions. This means they will book home parties and do the presentations. They get paid for the home party and they also get paid when someone becomes a distributor. If they only buy the product then the pay is minimal. This is particularly useful when a person does not want to join an MLM but still wants to do sales. I am also thinking of having them approach Chiropractors, get appointments to show the video and then do three way calls with my upline. I do believe this way of thinking will work out.
I am going to be talking to my first sales person on February 2nd in Seattle of all places. But that is where I will be on that particular day. I think I can get a good jump on the territory by doing it this way. What do you think?
I know most of the time we are working alone at home but this will give an edge in the fact that there will be accountability from myself as leader and from the sales team that I hire. I plan on having sales meetings each afternoon with a plan for the next day. I want to have 3 home parties booked each week, a minimum of three Chiropractor appointments plus some spa visits (appointment based ones only), throw in a couple of naturopaths, herbalists etc.
This should equal at least 5 appointments per day with a total of 25 per week (at a minimum). I will write up the plan and start hiring immediately. I will then you in on how the plan is working.
OK time for me to make my phone calls!

Day 91 – Post Seminar and Time to Follow-Up
It is early and I am wide awake with ideas and getting that list so I can follow up. The follow up is going to be the key of making last night’s seminar a big success. I am sending an email to the person I sponsored and will be calling him on the phone this afternoon to make sure I get all the info I need to get that follow up in place.
I got the phone and emailing formation around 3:30 today and called everyone on the list. I got yelled at by one person saying that MLM is a scam and we are all scam artists and all MLMs do is take advantage of the little people and rob them. I think this guy has an issue with someone that ripped him off in the past. He did not think MLM is a viable business at all and all the products were fakes and phonies.
It seems that my husband bought back into that attitude today as well. He did “research” on the product and found all kinds of negative information (actually not a lot but some) and, of course, he believes the negative over the positive each and every time. It just feels like an uphill battle with him every day and I am getting very tired of it. The negative guy on the phone, well, that is his problem not mine – next!
I also got some very positive responses from others I called. One wants to be a distributor and is showing the video to his friends over the next couple of days. Another one gathered all the info last night and will go to the site and check it out again, a third person was extremely interested in the product and yet another wants to try it before signing up. It was really positive and besides, the more people we talk to, the more distributors we can get on board. I am aiming to have 10 plus by the end of February.
As far as my down line – the one group spends time complaining about spending money! Auto ship is a painful experience, yet there is no effort to sell product and recruit. I would not be surprised if the auto ship went away and we have a dynamic compression situation on our hands!
Was it a good day! Well YES! I actually phoned people and got better as I smiled and dialed away. I still have the fear but at least I know I am following up!

Day 90 – The Day After the Seminar
This is now the morning after the first seminar and it is time to get the follow ups done. Each person that showed an interest last evening will get a phone call from me. I have two specific phone calls to make to prospects and one call to my upline to attend a networking event on my behalf.
I love the excitement of the seminar but I also like the follow up as I get to connect with people that have already been introduced to the business. It is then a matter of answering questions and assuring them that this is the right thing to do. I will start with an email stating I will call them this morning.
On another note, I have another seminar tonight in a different city with a completely different audience. I know we will have a couple of new distributors out of each of these and that is the important aspect of doing these and having Jim Britt travel to various locations.
I also have to plan for two home parties at the beginning of February as we are leaving this area and moving to San Jose closer to my job. This will free up a lot of time for me as the commute is crazy and takes away a lot of my free time to work on the business.
The event went off great with a few minor technical issues like not having speakers! It could have been a disaster but Jim Britt is a true professional and he recited the results of the video. As a result, I have 2 signed up distributors and 40 people to follow up with. I am just hoping that the person I sponsored will pass me the email and phone number information so I can do my follow up tomorrow. I do believe that I can get 8 more from those that were in the audience.

Day 89 – Rainy Day with Sunshine Predicted for the Evening
Winter always provides us with rain and other weather that keeps us indoors. Today is no exception. Although I love being outside and exercising by playing tennis, cycling or simply long walks, today I will be in my home office catching up with my work. It is somewhat comforting that I can work from home and keep a level of concentration that is not possible from my desk in the office.
This evening is the first of two seminars being put on by my upline. I have invited several people to attend the meeting with the intended end result of having them sign up with my business. I know for sure I have one person ready to go and I will meet him there at 6 pm.
The other person is already in my downline but has not yet worked the business. He has also invited a few friends and I want that to be a success for him as well. He did go to the effort to get the people there and now I have to make sure he can capitalize on it.
The seminar went extremely well even though there was a small turnout. The people that came were really enthralled with the message. I do believe that we will have two people sponsored by my direct downline. Both of them are excellent candidates and have worked MLM before. So here’s to effort and consistency.

Day 88 – Encouragement is all that Counts
Today is a holiday in celebration of the freedom of all people. It is a day to realize your dreams and have world peace. This day should be no different than every day of our lives. We need to encourage each other and help one another up the ladder of success.
I want everyone to figure out three things. The first is figure out your “why”. Why are you working at your place of employment and why do you want to consider being in this business. There is not an easy answer but once you figure this part out, the other two questions will fall into place.
Second, figure out what price you are willing to pay to accomplish your dreams. Would you get fired from work because of your commitment to the business? Would you miss a funeral to be at a critical meeting and would you forgo a vacation if it meant you could further your goals? Although these may seem extreme (and they are), what is your limit on what you will do to get there?
Lastly, ask yourself, “Now that I have accomplished my dream, can I describe a day in my life?”
I had a bit of a setback today with the distributor I signed up yesterday called the company and withdrew his application. I was totally disappointed but it is better they resign than do nothing!
On the brighter side, I got a phone call from another friend that wants to sign up. He will meet me on Tuesday evening at the seminar to get his paperwork in. This person will be a hot one as he has done this before and been successful. I am placing him under the person that does all the trade shows so that he gets a leg up and going quickly.
I lost one but gained a better one in the process. You cannot attach yourself to the business personally and take it hard. You have to say that this is just business and move on.

Day 87 – Another Success
The day after an event such as Premier School makes you think all night and into the next day. The best part is the planning of what you have to do in order to push further ahead. One of the points brought up was the fact that you do not want to be a drive by sponsor. Get them signed up and then ignore them and hope that arm will grow. Not likely to happen.
The suggestion is to find your first 5 people. Yes, only 5 and then find another 5 and place those 5, one at a time, under each of the first 5. Out of that list of 10 you should be able to have some leaders. I do believe that the number was 4. You can continue to build your organization but you will need to be able to support them entirely. That means calling them each week or more often, sending emails on ideas, keeping them in the loop for events and recruiting opportunities and generally supporting them as you would for any other business.
Today I added another distributor in my downline. I am truly excited that I finally got my fourth person. We will be adding my youngest daughter to the mix next week and start building the rest below my then current 5. As I have 2 events (seminars) coming up this week and have invited several people, the task of getting my next 5 should be fairly easy. But as I said before, we shall see. It all depends on whether they buy into me and then buy into the potential. As long as I continue to nurture relationships, I do believe the more successful I will be.
I also have a call from another person that I need to follow-up with tomorrow. I am really happy to work this business and be able to help others dig themselves out of a financial slump.

Day 86 - I went to School Today
It was a long drive early in the morning to make it to school (called Premier School) in Sacramento today. My husband is accompanying me and is willing to support my efforts but he is still not that enthusiastic about the venture. The drive was around 90 minutes as the traffic was thin that time on a Saturday morning. I was apprehensive as to the value of the school but promised myself to get more involved.
I was in for a real treat! The speaker was dynamic, enthusiastic and no beat around the bush type of guy. My husband related to him immediately. The first part of the presentation was explaining the compensation plan (this I thought would be blah, blah, blah but I was wrong). It was here that I realized I am in a company that is truly in the start up phase of being an MLM company and being traded on the NYSE. This is where my husband all of a sudden got it. Here I am 3rd level down from the Master Distributor and working with Jim Britt, one of the top in the industry. We are in an amazing place with product, plan and timing.
The product information drove home the research and the patents. Another aha moment for my husband. On the drive home, he was planning the best approaches based on the information we received at premier school and now we are planning the home parties, the presentations, and the one on one visits with individuals. I am truly thankful that I have been told PARTICIPATE no matter how.
On a side note, I met some wonderful people in the business and we are all going to be working together to further this business. I am looking forward to having people on my Webinars and contributing to this blog.

Day 85 - Speakers from Around the Globe
Today was another day for testing theories and you must be wondering by now when the testing will stop and what is going to work for me. I always figured that you keep testing because what works today might not necessarily work tomorrow. I keep with the tried and true and then add more each day.
My theory today was to try and figure out how to get followers on twitter. One of the best ways is to actually add text on a constant basis, then start following others. Once you follow them, they often start following you. Now it is time to figure out whom I want to follow.
I did connect with two people today. One flatly refused the idea and the other wants me to email more information and took my card. I know I will have to go beyond that tomorrow. The second person was a Peace Scholar from Rotary – talk about world experience!I learned much about travelling the world and working towards ending violence.

Day 84 - I love meeting New People
Today I had the opportunity to meet 35 new people. Most of them were in the classroom with me for a course, some were in my Zumba class and yet another was the repairman for our thermostat. We (my husband and I) talked to the repairman about the business and he took a card and a couple of samples with him – you never know.
I still need to talk to at least one more person about the business today – so I guess going for a walk and hitting a coffee shop or two will do the trick.
I am keeping on my toes – you may be wondering at this point if I will ever sign anyone of magnitude into the business. I know that if I keep talking, that eventually I will get those people on board. I went fast in another business before but then had a difficult time maintaining the pace. This time I want to go slow and steady and work it appropriately.
I will be taking advantage of social media (social networking as well). I assume you know that the two are not the same. One thing I will do for sure is use Google Open ID so I can instantly create profiles without too much effort. It will make it much easier to join other social networks and set up profiles.
Once of my tasks will also to be setting up my own groups and perhaps my own social media network. This is something that I will have to put in my plans for later in the month.

Day 83 - The 14 Hour Work Day
Although I love my job, it sometimes taxes my health to be at work for 14 hours. I am working with an incredible technology that spans the globe. Telepresence makes connecting with others around the world so easy, it is as if they are sitting across the table even though they are thousands of miles away. I love it!
How does this fit into building my business. Probably not a lot right now, however, it does allow me to connect with more people than ever. At work today I had a query and left a newspaper and sample. Other than that, it has simply been talking to people at meetings about work and not the business. I am sure we all get these challenges. Tomorrow is another day that I will keep pushing on the time to call.
On Saturday I will be attending a “school” for people in the business. I am hoping to meet with an old friend afterwards – it depends on my husband wanting to visit with him. I sure do hope we can.

Day 82 - Networking at Events Presentation
A long say at work with three presentations today. The first was one done by an expert in the Supply Chain field, the second one was one from a university on suing statistics and the last one was by me on Practicing Presentation Skills. On top of that I did a presentation on How to Network at Events for the business.
By doing presentations, I realize how much I love to share my knowledge with others. I have a natural talent for being a speaker and presenter (It is not just my opinion as I have been speaking and presenting for years and my audience tends to really enjoy what I have to say). By presenting what I know, I not only get to share my knowledge, but I get to see the faces of my audience light up as they gain new knowledge.
I am recording each of my presentations and will package them up as one of the products I bring to the table. I will also be revising my bestselling book to include social networking tips and tricks. I will be placing pre-orders on my website over the next month. The price will include tickets to a seminar and other great benefits! Look for the link soon!

Day 81- January 11, 2010
Monday morning and it is great to get up early, shower and get going for the day. I really love putting my head into processes and strategies.
Today I will need to fit in phone calls and emails around the numerous meetings and planning sessions. I have made a promise to myself to make those calls.
I madethree calls today, one to a distributor to put a trade show plan in place, one to a potential customer (distributor) – I left a message and the next call to a customer to ask for referrals. Funny thing, it was totally painless as they all knew me. Here was my terror over the phone and it was a simple component.
I think my fear is from the unknown person. Let’s see how I fare calling total strangers from a list (that I have a common association with). Should be interesting!

Day 80 - January 10, 2010
Sunday and not really a day of rest. It is a day to rejuvenate yourself and to plan the week ahead. Today I will make my plans but also post more flyers around the neighborhood. I truly hope that I can get that attendance up by 20 people. It is a matter of posting and reminding people what is happening in the area. There is a farmers market today at the mall and I will pass out some flyers there as well.
As far as connecting with two people and getting them to look at the video, it is still a part of my plan and I have to decide who is responsive on a Sunday. I need to test out my script so that I am sounding natural and not stiff. The script is easy, call them, tell them about a video you would like them to watch and get their opinion, then follow up later in the day or the next day to see what they thought. Sounds easy but I am still having difficulty getting past the pick up the phone and dial issue. I am truly going to have to force myself to do it and consistently before 10 am every day during the week.
My big question is – does Sunday count? Do we truly get that day of rest? Just be prepared in case someone asks and then you are armed and ready. People will talk to you more when they are not being sold or figure you have a sales kit with you. OK – off to the mall to test some of my theories.
Well I managed to place a couple of flyers in windows; I put some in mailboxes and gave out a couple at the mall. I also left copies in the restroom, on table were people sit – let’s see if they catch any attention. You have to work on the guerrilla techniques when getting the info out there!

Day 79 - January 9, 2010
Saturday always seems like the day when I need to catch up with everything. Today was no exception. It was also a day when I started to place posters for the talk on January 20th around my little town. I found that a lot of places do not post any events, however, I did find that there were some that always did. I even placed posters at a major bookstore. I am going to work on placing more tomorrow.
I also got some responses for the posting on Face book, Twitter and LinkedIn. I have responded to those individuals already. I am aiming to get at least 20 people at the event just for me. By the way I also dropped off a copy to my neighbor that has expressed an interest as well as my hairdresser (already a part of my down line). My hairdresser is excited about attending and will get her husband to take a poster to work.
Now the day is over and I did manage to get a 12 mile walk in (one 10 miles and then some shorter walks for an additional 2). It was a great day for exercise! We included seeing a movie as my husband I did the distribution of posters. It is good to make time your friend and get everything in as planned.

Day 78 - January 8, 2010
Friday always rolls around quickly when you are busy and having fun. I finally connected with my mentor and coach. I now feel more energized than ever. The first task on my list was to cull my contacts down to the top 60 and work with calling those.
The second task was to start calling people right away (2 a day) and I did that immediately even though I left a message for each person. Guess what? Each of them got back in touch with me to catch up.
My third task was to invite as many people as I know to the seminar in two weeks time. I took the flyers to my Rotary Club and made sure I personally invited each person. I came back home and reinforced the invitation by sending an email confirming the details and how to register. The last step here will be to send out reminders to the same group of people in the middle of next week. And then a final follow-up on the Monday/Tuesday before the event.
I am pumped about the results of my mentoring call and what I have been able to accomplish in a couple of hours of work!

Day 77 - January 7, 2010
Another day and another opportunity to promote my business. I did receive another check in the mail from LifeVantage so I guess I do have some people buying product.
I did some reading last night in the Do This Get Rich book which I am hoping will help me do a better job. I realize that this is not a full time endeavor for me as I do have a full time job that fulfills me. I still want to try and make this a go as it will be something I can do in my retirement.
Today I am going to be distributing flyers around the local businesses (coffee shops) and anyone else that I can give one to so that there is a large attendance to the January 20th event. This will really help to promote the business and help with the awareness of the product.
I have had two really motivating calls today about the business. It should help me to let go of my fear for follow up. I really have difficulty with calling people on the phone. I need to get over that fear or I will have trouble building this business!

Day 76 - January 6, 2010
I hope everyone had a good night’s sleep as today is going to bring a lot of energy. After the holiday break we often get into the doldrums and our daily routine starts to wear down. I know for me if I get out of doing something for a couple of days, everything starts to slide.
I have neglected sending emails, promoting a talk and even phoning friends but today I must get back on that horse and start to ride again. I have my call with my mentor today and let’s take it from there. In the meantime out go the emails!
Interesting – my mentor was not available – am I truly working on my own? I guess I am feeling quite disconnected today. I am sure it will pass, there is always a reason for the way things happen.

Day 75 - January 5, 2009
Another day and I still have half my checklist of activities from yesterday. I know my day was filled with activity at work and my evening with a corporate call (only 30 minutes) and I managed to get In 2 50 minute walks. The other part of the checklist was the phone calls that I did not take time to make. I am going to have to schedule calls during my breaks (10, noon, and 3) so that I will actually do them.
I neglected the emails as well so now I have double the work today. You cannot build a business unless you actually do the work, it doesn’t happen by itself.
I have set up a call to talk with my mentor and set up a consistent program that will help me through my slump with the business. I know where I want to go but somehow lack the courage (as I feel I may be afraid) to make the calls I need to make. It will be a matter of coaching, shadowing and finally floating on my own. Let’s see where the call tomorrow leads me.

Day 74 - January 4, 2010
Back to work today after a wonderful quiet work week last week. I have lots on my plate today with organizing my training and six sigma components. I love working with processes.
So what have I planned for today with my MLM business? When I get a break this afternoon I will be conducting phone calls to my customers as a start. Then move on to sending out more emails. I have neglected the emails for the last month or two as the response rate was not what I wanted. It could be the format that I used. I am going to be testing 3 different formats and see if there is a change in the rates. I will be tracking each type and when I find the winner, and then I will go with that one until the rate drops again.
I need to put in a tracking system that is beyond just Excel. I have a very detailed excel workbook that allows me to track, however, it is heavily reliant on my ability to keep it updated.

Day 73 - January 3, 2010
Sunday and it is a day for rest. I finished reading the Christopher Howard book – it was very enlightening and very motivating with lots of action items to complete. One of the offers was a free two day seminar for having purchased the book. The offering is great, unfortunately they only offer courses in New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and England. I guess I am going to have to wait until there is an offering in the US.
One of the biggest lessons from the book was to build a team in order to move forward with any business. Going lone-wolf style slows down the process and gaining momentum if much more difficult. You need to build a team of 5 or more people that see your vision and are going in the same direction, then teach others to do the same.
One of the biggest challenges is how to monetize everything that you do including building your team. I want my team to be very entrepreneurial minded, have the ability to drive themselves without prodding, plus be team players. My job for this week is to identify those people, whether I am acquainted with them or not.
I am to make a list with the traits I am looking for and then make my move to get that person (or those people) involved. It is a slightly different approach rather than bugging everyone I know and hope that I get a team member as a result. I am going to set networking goals to find those team mates.

Day 72
January 2, 2010 and the year is off to a good start. Christmas came down today and everything is boxed up and put away for the next year. Today is the day for really getting back in physical activity and start to live up to those resolutions.
I am searching for speakers for my Webinars and I got a response from another PhD that I have know for a few years. He wants to talk about Personal Power. I think this is a great subject and will go over well. I will be sure to record that session and add it to my CD set.
My calendar is filling with events for the next quarter. I have all my trade shows planned along with phone calls, webinars and meetings. I will still need to find time to do the phone calls and follow-ups. I have several in the pipeline right now that I need to capitalize on and many more ideas on how to approach.
I read something interesting today about looking at my business and deciding what was working and what was not. The gist of the material was that you need to list everything in your business you feel can be improved (and I mean everything). From that point you take one of the items and list 20 ways to make that part of the business work for you. You are not allowed to stop until you have 20 solutions listed. From that list of 20, pick the best solution and get to it immediately. I found that there were two really easy ones to do and the best solution was not one of them. It works – go try it.

Day 71 New Year's Day
What a great day! We are cleaning up old issues, cleaning the house and making plans for the year. The plans include getting all the events for my business into good shape with times and dates booked in. The planning stages and strategies are my forte and I love every minute of it.
I went out and purchased a large calendar that I can tear apart and have 3 months viewing for activities at a time. It always seems that I have things going on and seeing into the future one quarter at a time makes it easier to plan.
Now I have Outlook, a wall calendar and my day timer; if I can’t plan from that and organize my time, then I am in deep trouble. Now for the fun part – the brain storming of ideas to move the business forward. What can I do to make my business stand out from others and have a team join me! Let’s see what the little grey cells can conjure up!
